VFB Stuttgart Tumbles in the relegation battle: “Bitter setback” against Mainz 05
Check instead of exemption: The VFB Stuttgart continues to oppose the descent – but those responsible remain combative.
After the next neck stroke in the detention time, the whole frustration burst out from Pellegrino Matarazzo. “It’s shitty and hurt,” the otherwise pronested coaches of the VfB Stuttgart, who stumbled with the Swabia deeper into the crisis. Because the descent assests grow, the situation is approaching – instead of relief there was again disillusionment.
While the Stuttgart stopped at 1: 1 (0: 0) against Bayern-Bezwinger VfL Bochum, but played lightly the first victory since December in a dramatic ultimate phase. “That’s a bitter setback,” gave the “very, very disappointed” Matarazzo after a felt defeat for the tumbling VfB too.
The shock sat deep. Borna Sosa wiped tears from his face, Konstantinos Mavropanos stared at an empty view over the field. After all, he was, who had denied the hopes for a liberation strike with an impetuous foul.
“Who was not destroyed on the ground after the game?” Matarazzo asked, after Eduard Löwen (90. + 4) had relied on the penalty. That scene just before the end, said the VFB trainer, passe “in the overall picture of the season”.
One in which the traditional club stumbles more and more. There are unhappy defeats, the accumulation of Corona Falls last or the injury speck. Recently Example: Silas Katompa Mvumpa drops because of a shoulder luxation from the game against Bochum for the rest of the season.
VfB Stuttgart: Job Guarantee for Trainer Matarazzo
And yet as often the coach is in focus. Before the game, sport director Sven MislinT had renewed the job guarantee for Matarazzo. “As long as I have to decide, we will go together this way,” he said at SKY.
Here, MiLintat has long been no longer inviolable – at least as far as the criticism is concerned from the troubled environment. The allegations, he would demonstrate a “one-man show”, he could “abbune with a smile”, assured mislint. President Claus Vogt and Matarazzo also had already placed behind the sports director in view of the increasing criticism.
Much to accuse the VfB against Bochum at least not. The Swabia fought, bravely defended the guidance according to the own goal of Armel Bella Kotchap (56th) – but missed it to come to the sack. What remains are two dots of the past eight games for the penultimate.
Although the third descent threatened since 2016, Matarazzo was combative. His young team has “enough quality, even in this situation to keep the league,” he said, “If we can look back in eleven playing on this giant board and still celebrate, then that’s a bond that will hold for a lifetime. “
